What started as a viral encounter in an aisle in Target has come full circle: what the enemy meant for evil, God turned around for good.
The Encounter That Started It All
Jeanie’s journey into the national spotlight began with a simple act of grace. During a shift at Target, she was recorded by Michelea Ponce. The video was meant to shame Jeanie for supporting Charlie Kirk while she was at work, but it ended up showing Jeanie’s unwavering kindness in the face of hatred.
In an era of viral “outrage” videos, the footage of Jeanie was a breath of fresh air.The response was so overwhelming that a GiveSendGo campaign was launched to support her, raising over a quarter of a million dollars from strangers across the country who were moved by her spirit.
A Surprise at AmFest
While Jeanie has spent decades serving her community, the tables were turned at the Turning Point USA event in Phoenix. Surrounded by thousands of attendees, she was called to the stage to be recognized for the light she brings to her workplace and the world.
Reflecting on the honor and her appreciation for the movement, Jeanie spoke about the importance of standing firm in one’s values.
“It meant that I can stand for freedom. I did, in a way, stand for my rights,” Jeanie said. “I love the way [Charlie Kirk] stood up and stood for God. And I love the way he talked to the students, where you can think for yourself, but God’s the one that’s got to go with you. Like everyone else, you just loved him.”

A Message of Unity
Visibly moved by the support, Jeanie shared a message that transcended politics or retail, focusing instead on how we treat one another.
“I don’t have the words except for thank you. I love you guys all,” she told the crowd. “I hope that I come across that we be nice to each other… He didn’t want the anger. He wouldn’t have responded any different than I did either, and I hope a lot of you would’ve responded the way I did, otherwise we’re going to get worse.”
What’s Next for Jeanie?
With the life-changing funds raised through GiveSendGo, Jeanie is now at a crossroads. While she is seriously considering retirement, the decision isn’t easy. Jeanie has often remarked that she truly loves her job—not for the tasks, but for the people.
