FACT CHECK: No, CNN Priest, Jesus Was NOT a ‘Palestinian Jew’

CNN religion commentator Father Edward L. Beck is spreading fake news and false information about Jesus to push a far-left antisemitic agenda that seeks to erase the Jewish roots of Christianity.

On Christmas Day, Beck told CNN viewers “the story of Christmas is about a Palestinian Jew.”

“A Palestinian Jew born into a time when his country was occupied, right? They can’t find a place for her to even give birth, his mother. They’re homeless. They eventually have to flee as refugees into Egypt, no less. I mean, you can’t make up the parallels to our current world situation right now,” Beck said.

“So in some way that is who we believe God becomes. Born into that situation and yet that very man Jesus says, ‘love one another, love your enemies,'” he continued. “There is hope. There is light in the darkness. I’m attesting to that. So somehow that God enters that experience of suffering and that struggle and is actually born into it. That is what is so miraculous about this celebration for me.”

The CNN hosts did not correct Beck. There was no message calling out his misinformation.

It is obvious Beck is trying to distance the Christian Messiah from his Jewish roots and connection to the modern Jewish state, Israel. Instead, he is using the Bible to push an anti-Israel agenda amid the Israel-Hamas war.

Popular K-Pop Star Gets Hate for Praying for Israel

I’m not a Roman Catholic priest, but it doesn’t take a religious leader to know the simple truth of history and the Bible.

And I’m not alone.

Prominent Israel activist Destiny Albritton took to Instagram to remind everyone that Bethlehem is in Judea, as is written in Matthew 2:1.

“Merry Christmas to everyone except Hamas, their sympathizers, and those who would erase the Jewishness of Jesus, my Lord & Savior, born in a manger in Bethlehem in Judea.” Albritton wrote.

Jake Wallis Simons, editor for the Jewish Chronicle, called out Beck’s claim on X.

“I’m no expert @CNN, but Jesus could not have been a ‘Palestinian Jew’ because the term ‘Palestine’ was introduced by the Romans some years after his death. Jesus lived in Judea. To retrospectively call him ‘Palestinian’ suggests a political agenda,” Simons said.

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, who was told by a Muslim family to “kill” himself if he didn’t agree with “Free Palestine” in New York City, eviscerated Beck’s argument.

“According to @cnn, Turns out Jesus was a Palestinian whose mother was persecuted by the state of Israel. He wasn’t a Jew, who was killed by the Romans. Rather, he was a Palestinian Arab whom the Jews persecuted and, for good measure, tried to murder his mom. I’ve debated this unfortunately extremely ignorant and foolish Father Edward Beck on television before. But he has reached a new low, and should be chastised by the Vatican for not only spreading fake news, but for lying outright about the contents of the New Testament and the Christian Bible. Rarely have I seen a Priest speak with such abysmal, shocking, antisemitism, and ignorance.”

Why I Proudly Support Israel as a Christian Zionist

Hussain Abdul-Hussain, research fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, responded: “Because you know how in Matthew 15:24 Jesus said, ‘I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel,’ by Israel Jesus meant Palestine. Father Beck has to stop watching Al-Jazeera and start reading the New Testament.”

International human rights lawyer Arsen Ostrovsky wrote: “I think @FrEdwardBeck may have missed his Theology 101 class! This is embarrassing on any day, let alone #Christmas, as he’s on CNN.”
