The Bible App, hosted by YouVersion, has reached over half a billion downloads since launching in 2008.
Craig Groeschel, founding pastor of Life.Church, made the announcement Wednesday in the “verse of the day” section, The Christian Post reports.
“As of today, the YouVersion Bible app is now on one-half of a billion devices around the world,” he said.
“To celebrate this moment, our verse of the day is Hebrews 4:12, which says, ‘For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart,’” the pastor said.
The Bible App, which offers scripture, Bible plans, and prayer first began with the question: “What if people could have access to the Bible wherever they go?”
They offered two languages: English and Spanish. Now, over 1,750 languages.
But YouVersion says God is not finished yet.
“Today we’re celebrating 500 million installs … but we’re not just reflecting on what God has done, we’re looking forward to what He’ll do next.”
Their next goal is 1 billion people with the Bible App, asking people to share it with their friends, family, and anyone they know in need of God’s Word.
“There are millions of people still waiting to be transformed by the Bible, and you are perfectly positioned to reach some of them. Allow God to actively work through you by inviting others to discover that The Bible is Alive.”
