K-Pop Star Siwon Choi Attacked for Honoring Charlie Kirk, Defending Christians

Korean singer and actor Siwon Choi of the K-pop group Super Junior is facing an intense “cancel culture” mob for doing two things the woke internet cannot tolerate: honoring a conservative and speaking up for persecuted Christians.

The international superstar, who is known for his outspoken Christian faith, is now the target of a “#SIWON_OUT” campaign, with angry “netizens” (a term for hyper-online users) demanding he be kicked out of his band.

His first “crime” was posting a “Rest in Peace” message to his Instagram story in September for the late Charlie Kirk, the conservative leader and founder of Turning Point USA. Siwon explained he was mourning the tragic, violent death of a fellow Christian and family man, not making a political statement.

On the fan platform Bubble, Siwon wrote that he wanted to clarify his intentions, saying, “Kirk was a Christian, a father, and a husband. Regardless of political leanings, losing one’s life to gun violence in front of university students is a tragic incident.”

But the cancel mob, which labeled Kirk a “far-right” figure, refused to accept this. They flooded his social media, demanding he be removed from Super Junior for honoring a conservative.

His second “crime” came shortly after, when he posted about the genocide of Christians in Nigeria—a topic I’ve covered extensively. Some online activists immediately labeled his post “Islamophobic,” once again attacking him for bringing attention to the slaughter of fellow believers.

This is the world we live in: A celebrity can’t even mourn a death or post about a genocide without a woke mob trying to destroy his career.

Years ago, he was under fire for attending a meeting to pray for Israel.

But this isn’t just another celebrity story for me. I know what Siwon is really like.

A few years ago, I had the privilege of meeting Siwon when he quietly visited my church. He wasn’t there for a photo-op or for fame. He was there to worship. I found him to be incredibly kind, gracious, and, most importantly, a genuine and outspoken follower of Jesus.

He is now paying the price for that faith.

While Siwon eventually deleted the post about Kirk—likely due to overwhelming pressure—his stance is clear. He is a man of faith who believes in conservative values and is willing to speak up for the persecuted, even when it’s not popular.

Ironically, he’s served as UNICEF’s East Asia & Pacific Regional Ambassador for a campgain to #StopBullying.

His profile boldly declares, “Everything is by the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

This is the very definition of courage, and the fact that he is being attacked for it proves just how much we need more voices like his, not fewer.
