Ohio Police Department Shows Mom Fighting Cancer Powerful Support

An Ohio mom battling breast cancer was moved after seeing the local police department shave their heads in solidarity.

The heartwarming moment came after Goshen Township Police Officer and K-9 handler Matthew Bucksath saw Ali Campbell’s emotional video as her husband shaved her head and tears streamed down her face.

“I watched it and was moved by it, of the raw emotion she showed in it, the raw emotion of her daughter Maci in the background crying because of her mom having her head shaved,” Bucksath told Good Morning America. “I slept on it [and] the idea came to mind — the best way to show her is to humble yourself and do the exact same thing. So I reached out to some fellow officers.”

One by one they showed their support in a video posted on Facebook, adding, “in our community, no one fights alone!”

The mom of three said that even though she was surprised by the officers’ gesture, it’s something her neighbors are known for.

“I’m watching these police officers all shave their head for me, like, our community is just like that. They’ve always rallied behind me,” she said.

Campbell also launched a Change.org protest to get insurance companies to cover mammograms for women under 40.

She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 at the age of 33, after she found a lump during a self exam, despite not having a history of cancer in her family. She underwent chemotherapy, had a double mastectomy and radiation treatment, and is now back on chemotherapy to try to shrink tumors that spread to her bones.
