A Pennsylvania pastor preaching about the “enemies of God” got an unexpected sermon illustration when a man pulled a gun on him mid-message.
Thankfully, the bullet never left the gun after the suspect pulled the trigger.
Glenn Germany, the pastor of Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in the Pittsburgh suburb of North Braddock, said the suspect, 26-year-old Bernard Polite, was not known to the congregation.
“He pulled the trigger and a miracle of God happened that the gun got jammed,” Germany told “Good Morning America.”
The pastor and a church deacon, Clarence McCallister, were able to tackle the gunman and disarm him.
Germany said Polite didn’t put up a fight and actually apologized to him.
“Look, I’m not mad at you,” the pastor told the gunman. “‘I forgive you and I want you to know I love you.”
Polite apologized to the preacher.
Police said investigators found the body of a relative who was fatally shot at Polite’s home.
Bernard allegedly confessed to authorities that he attempted to take Germany’s life, adding “God told me to do it.”
Germany praised McCallister’s “heroism” for helping him disarm Polite on Sunday.
Polite allegedly confessed that he heard music from the church and decided to go inside, then attempted to shoot the pastor so he could “go to jail and clear his mind.”
