‘Thank God’: Kids Narrowly Escape Before Church Van Catches Fire

Posted on June 23, 2023June 23, 2023 By Caleb Parke

A Texas mom is crediting God for saving church youth campers who were able to flee their van just seconds before it was engulfed in flames.

Jordin Williams, a mother of two of the kids, spoke to the local media about the incident earlier this week.

A group of children from Anchor Church in Houston were on their way to camp in Kerrville with two adults, a youth leader and his mom who happens to be a former school bus driver, when they started smelling smoke on I-610.

“Faith has to play a part in it,” Williams told KHOU 11. “We believed and we prayed over those kids.”

The group in the van said they smelled something like BBQ before they realized it was the smell of smoke in their vehicle.

“My son, the 15-year-old, said, ‘Mom, it was 60 seconds from the time we got off the van that it was completely engulfed,” Williams explained.

An electrical issue caused the fire in the van, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Thankfully no one was hurt and the kids were able to take another van to summer camp.

“All I can do is thank God that they’re okay,” Williams said.
