World Series Champ Evan Carter, Known for ‘Jesus Won’ Shirt, Donates $70K to Help Hometown

Texas Rangers rookie and World Series champion Evan Carter is giving back to his hometown of Elizabethton, Tennessee with the proceeds from his popular “Jesus Won” shirts.  

The 21-year-old outfielder, who has a tattoo that means “God is greater than the highs and lows,” presented two $35,000 checks to baseball at his alma mater and Central Community Christian Church to help feed those in need.

“It happened so fast,” Carter told WJHL. “My wife (Kaylen) came up with the idea, and the next thing you know, 50 days later, here we are presenting some really big checks to people and just it’s unbelievable how many people have come together to help us out.”  

He added, “God works in mysterious ways, man. This is really cool.”  

Carter, alongside his wife, Kaylen, said it’s gone beyond what he imagined.  

“It’s spreading throughout the whole organization,” Carter said at the check presentation. “People who have never really tried to be a part of the Christian faith or anything, be a part of a group like that, saw the shirts and started asking questions. It’s just a great opportunity for us to kind of share our faith and spread the Word a little bit.”  

He noted, “We wore ‘em all year throughout Double A, Triple A. They were out throughout the organization and then we got to the big leagues and I didn’t mean anything by it. I wasn’t trying to make a big deal out of anything. I just always wore the shirt and the next thing you know it’s blowing up all over social media.”  

In October, Carter shared about the opportunity on his Instagram.  

“Our mission is to use the platform that baseball has blessed us with to give back to our community in Carter County, TN,” he explained.  

“Proceeds from your purchase of a Jesus Won t-shirt will jointly benefit two incredible programs in our community,” Carter added. “One being Central Cares, a program from our home Church of Central Community Christian Church, which helps provide for children in impoverished situations. The second will be helping provide an environment for young baseball players in our area to succeed.”

Kevin Mercer of Sports Spectrum explained, “Because he was only called up in September, Carter will still be eligible for the 2024 MLB season’s rookie awards. He hopes to continue his stellar play, not primarily to win individual awards or even back-to-back World Series titles, but to honor God and spread the Good News of the Gospel.”
