Ex-Porn Star-Turned-Pastor Shares ‘Real Risk in Consuming Pornography,’ Helps Others Get Free

Joshua Broome, a former porn star who is now a Christian pastor, is on a mission to help people quit pornography, sharing his personal experience.

The host of the “Counterfeit Culture with Joshua Broome” podcast told listeners “the very real mental and emotional trauma that comes with being in the porn industry and partaking in using pornography.”

Broome was one of the most successful adult film stars who spent six years in the porn industry and performed in thousands of films, which ultimately led him to a place where he wanted to die.

“I achieved a lot of success, I made a lot of money, and I found out the very hard way that that industry caused me a lot of strife in my life,” he said. “The reality is porn is detrimental to you. It’s detrimental to the people you love most.”

Now the father of three and husband is on a mission is to help people escape the grips of pornography.

“Each and every day I get hundreds of messages that say, ‘Josh, I’m a Christian. I love Jesus. But I cannot stop watching pornography. Please help me,’” Broome said. “So the reality is Christians are addicted to pornography and watching pornography.”

He said there are so many layers to the impacts of porn on a person.

“It impacts your brain. It impacts the way that you see relationships…it handicaps your ability to connect with people in an authentic way,” he added.

Broome breaks down the facts of the porn industry and how it profits off of exploiting real people, sharing that many people he worked with in porn tragically took their own lives in the latest episode of his podcast where he gives people practical ways to quit porn or help others who struggle with it.
